This is the term used by society to make a man out of a child. This phrase is used almost everywhere in the world to make young boys strong, independent, brave, courage, macho etc. Many think this term helps young boys to gain the above attributes but it is a sad fact to realize the term “Boys Shouldn’t Cry” actually does the opposite. After all we the male species are humans too. We feel emotions, we have feelings, and we aren’t immune to sadness, depression, melancholy.

A serious misconception to be believed is that it’s okay for girls to cry but not boys. This concept itself will be a root cause for the downfall of human race; this concept means women should be only weak while men should be only strong. This idea represses both men and women. This misconception is far as old as Earth is, even though how far we have reached from those years we still idealize this misconception. As a human regardless of who we are it is okay for men to cry and women not to cry. We all were created by the same God, crying is not a privilege granted for a specific gender.

Well let us get back to the concept why the term “Boys Don’t Cry” shouldn’t be idealized and why it is wrong. This term actually helps to create aggression, toxicity and hatred against others; especially women, even depression and melancholy.

WHY WOULD THIS TERM CAUSE THESE?

· Well, first this term indicates boys aren’t suppose to vent out their sad feelings eventually these sadness all accumulated will cause depression.

· If a person doesn’t vent out their sorrow in a proper way they vent it out through aggression and hatred.

· Many men vent it out this on women like their wife, mom etc as they suppress their real sadness and aggression from a young age.

This phrase actually represses boys from young age by portraying that crying is an act of cowardice. This would discourage them to seek mental health support in their future. This is a norm especially in many Asian and Arab societies, where seeking help from a psychiatrist is frowned upon, a black mark in your life, a taboo. This further discourages even an adult to seek mental help.

If their son cries after a fall the parents say “Boys Don’t Cry”.

If their son asks cries for a toy the parents say “Boys Don’t Cry”.

For literally any reason if the son cries the parents use the phrase “Boys Don’t Cry”.

This ideology is put into our minds from our childhood which many follows and preaches to their children too not realizing the effects it would cause or it has caused.

‘BOYS SHOULD NEVER CRY’

This phrase is one of the main reason that;

· Men hold the highest percentage of suicidal death.

· Men hold the highest percentage of depression.

· Men hold the highest percentage of drug abuse and addiction.

· Men hold the highest percentages of involving in crimes.

· Men hold the highest percentages of causing domestic violence.

· Men hold the highest percentages of abuse.

Crying is actually a really good stress reliever it has many other benefits. Even if it’s an adult or a child crying should never be repressed within themselves. Crying is what makes us soft-hearted. It’s okay for anyone to cry regardless of your gender.

Crying is not an act of cowardice but an act of courage and bravery. It’s easy to repress your feelings rather than open your feelings.
